“I can’t believe they pay me for this!” was one of the cutest things Veronica Ponzano said to me while we had coffee at Taveggia and talked about her job for a famous luxury brand. I can just imagine (as she can also) how many people would kill to spend a day in the archive looking for specific item or trim detail and actually get paid for doing it! I don’t remember what her exact job title is but I think it could be Very Lucky Woman. Veronica really embodies the kinda of style I love; a little masculine , a little feminine, a little practical and a little whimsical all tied together with her unique Italian touch.
When I started this Substack I knew it would have a lot of these Style Profiles because it’s exactly the kind of questions I’m always asking new and old friends. What are you watching? What are you reading? Over the years I’ve found that people with great style are very curious and love trying new things while holding onto the things they already love and finding a way for them to co-exists. If you have other good suggestions for questions leave them the comment section.
Favorite Designers and Brands?
From the present: Miu Miu and Prada are at the top of my list, obviously they are the perfect synthesis of all my favorite aesthetic and cultural references. I also really appreciate the work of Pieter Mulier at Alaia and the creative direction of Antony Vaccarello at YSL. I think Matthieu Blazy has a very strong talent and I love the way he redesigned Bottega Veneta (and now hopefully Chanel) respecting the starting idea of that brand: the art of craftsmanship in a very luxurious way. From the past in particular YSL, Elsa Schiaparelli and Chanel (led by Madame Coco Chanel).
What are you most excited to wear this fall?
I’m deeply into LAYERING and colored wool tights possibly worn with white summer cotton dresses or skirts.
Most beloved fashion pieces?
Uhm difficult to answer, I have many clothes in my wardrobe that have a deep meaning for me. Maybe some precious handmade pieces of lingerie from my great-grandmother's wardrobe.
Favorite perfume?
As you understand it's very difficult for me to have a favorite piece haha maybe because of my multicolored personality. I like to wear and try different perfumes because for me perfume is like telling a story and telling how I feel in that moment. When I smell and choose a new fragrance for me it is essential that it connects to a memory of mine, to a sensation of something I experienced. Now I'm in love with Lunatique by Liquide Imaginaires.
Favorite shoes?
At the moment maybe shoes with tiny tiny heels
Favorite Bag?
Big top handle bag!
Favorite jewelry?
For sure antique jewelry, especially art-deco. what a dream!
Favorite Hats?
I love hats! I grew up in the city of Borsalino, and wearing the hat in my family is a statement! we have the tradition of giving a Borsalino hat for the 18th birthday. But in reality my obsession with hats refers to all the photos of Miuccia Prada in which she wears hats and head accessories… divine
Favorite Sunglasses?
The beautiful selection of vintage sunglasses from Foto Veneta Ottica shop in Milano
Favorite Movie?
Cinema is essential to me, all the film genres from differents decades; Nouvelle Vague, Neorealismo Italiano, Old Hollywood. One film that inspires me so much has been Belle de Jour by Louis Bunuel. All the Catherine Deneuve’s looks are made by Yves Saint Laurent!
